Chapter Sixteen
Admiral Collison and his fleet were minutes away from dropping out of hyperspace in the red giant star system that held their next targets. His fleet had already moved to Condition Two and would shortly move to Condition One. He wanted to be on the highest alert, in case the Morag had managed to identify his next target. It was highly unlikely; for now, the odds would be in Collisonâs favor.
With every star system they targeted and with every shipyard they destroyed, the odds would eventually shift in favor of the Morag identifying a pattern. Collison was trying to be mindful in picking his targets at random, to not be logical about it at all, but that wasnât as easy as it seemed.
âCaptain Billingsly, move the fleet to Condition One,â Collison commanded. He would be ready for whatever awaited them in this star system. He hoped he had enough time to destroy the shipyards before the patrolling Morag fleet could engage them. Dealing with the patrolling fleet wasnât as bad as dealing with the larger fleet that he was sure waited for them somewhere. Hopefully not anywhere near this system. He knew, the next time the Morag found Collisonâs fleet, that the Morag fleet would likely follow them into hyperspace. The more shipyards he could destroy before then, the better.
As they dropped from hyperspace, alarms sounded.
âWhat do we have, Captain Billingsly?â asked Collison.
âScans show thirty-seven battlecruisers and six battleships patrolling near the shipyards of Morag Forty-Two,â reported Billingsly.
âGuess they know why weâre here,â replied Collison. âTake us in as close as we can get. We will engage the fleet, while Rear Admiral Carrie and the battlecarriers take out the shipyards.â

Rear Admiral Carrie was not surprised the Morag fleet was already in position to protect the shipyards. The longer the enemy fleet could hold off the Humans, the more time it bought the larger Morag fleet to arrive. This meant destroying the shipyards would be up to her and her attack interceptors, while the larger part of the fleet held off the Morag ships. Carrieâs crew was ready. They had planned for this.
As they moved closer to the planet and the first shipyard, Carrie and the battlecarriers held back a little. They would launch their attack from the safety of the rear of the fleet.
She watched as the fleet took the formation of ten ships high and sixty ships long. The dreadnoughts were in the center of the formation.
âLetâs have the battlecarriers prepare to launch the attack interceptors. We will launch as soon as the fleet sends off their first rounds of accelerator cannon fire,â commanded Carrie.
âThe Morag fleet is two minutes from engagement range,â said Major Sullivan.
Carrie took a deep breath to steady herself. The Morag fleet wouldnât last long up against the accelerator cannons. That weapon had really helped to even the playing field a little bit. Destroying their shipyards would help it even more.

Morag Captain Matiun was on patrol in a red giant star system and its one inhabited planet, Morag Forty-Two.
